Per a recent news report, The Obama administration is taking steps to grant what amounts to amnesty to as many as 300,000 illegal aliens. I consider this to be an act of betrayal against the American people, who are struggling to provide health care, education, and a decent quality of life for our families. Difficult conditions which the President is quite smug about, even as he has played a prominent role in exacerbating the aforementioned challenges.
It is important that all Americans, whether liberal or conservative, take a close look at the facts. Some of which are as follows:
The federal government is 14.3 trillion in debt. One estimate placed the cost of illegal immigration at $113 billion per year (http://www.fairus.org/site/News2/977633106?page=NewsArticle&id=23190&security=1601&news_iv_ctrl=1761).
The Unemployment rate in the U.S. is now 9.1. (http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000). Studies have found that “between 40 and 50 percent of wage-loss among low-skilled Americans is due to the immigration of low-skilled workers. Some native workers lose not just wages but their jobs through immigrant competition. An estimated 1,880,000 American workers are displaced from their jobs every year by immigration”. The cost for providing welfare and assistance to these Americans is over $15 billion a year.
Public school funding is a priority for most states. Reducing costs and maximizing revenue is the strategy most districts are pursuing, even as numerous schools are closing across the country, partly due to funding problems. In a 2006 study, Standard & Poor analysts concluded: “Local school districts are estimated to educate 1.8 million undocumented children. At an average annual cost of $7,500 (averages vary by jurisdiction) per student, the cost of providing education to these children is about $11.2 billion.”(http://www.businessweek.com/investor/content/apr2006/pi20060407_072803.htm)
In a report published February 1, 2011, the Pew Hispanic Center estimated that there were about 11.2 million undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. in March 2010 (http://pewhispanic.org/reports/report.php?ReportID=133).
I have highlighted only a few examples of the significant consequences to U.S. taxpayers, as a result of illegal immigration. It is undisputable that illegal immigration has limited the quality of education, health care and other services for millions of Americans. Especially hurt by illegal immigration are Americans who are economically disadvantaged. No one more than Americans of African descent, whose opportunities for employment evaporate under the weight of unskilled illegal immigrants sabotaging the free market spirit of competition through unlawful employment.
President Obama has turned his back on the American people. He has thumbed his nose at “rule of law” and the U.S. Constitution. He has manipulated the judicial process to benefit his own illegal immigrant family members. Through fine words and smooth speeches, he now attempts to convince the American people that the suffering and loss of opportunities millions of U.S. citizens have already endured, should somehow be increased to satisfy his political agenda.
Let us pray we have only a little while longer before this President’s betrayal of the American people will be a distance past. Let us pray he is indeed a one term president. The quality of life of all American depends on it.
