Liberals are saying that Governor Romney pledged to abolish FEMA. Of course, liberal media is shamelessly politicizing the suffering of American citizens brought about Hurricane Sandy, by claiming Gov. Romney didn’t want FEMA to be in a position to help them.
These are liberal lies, period.
Gov. Romney has NEVER said that he would abolish FEMA. What has said, and I agree, is that we need to be more effective and efficient on a local and state level in situations that are not necessarily a national disaster.
In effect, Governor Romney believes that FEMA is necessary as a federal coordinating agency when we have a true catastrophy, such as Hurricane Sandy.
However, history has taught us that a strong local and state volunteer base, a strong business community, and active religious community are always best equipped to work together to meet local and state needs where a national disaster is NOT applicable.
Even in the case of Hurricane Katrina, local and state businesses were often in a position to expeditiously meet needs of residents before FEMA was in a position to even determine what their role would be.
In effect, Gov. Romney is saying that the Federal government cannot be the “be all and do all” in emergency responses.
Private citizens properly trained and equipped are always going to be our best resources, particularly when we do NOT have a national disaster where FEMA coordination is absolutely required.
I agree with Gov. Romney.
