Is It Right When The Right Plays Race Politics?

Larry Elder wrote an Op Ed Entitled: “Intervention to Cure Black Friend’s Addiction — to Liberalism”

This is the kind of embarrassing, race politics played by many so called Conservatives which makes Conservatives look like hypocrites and makes some Black Conservatives in particular look like Black overseers on a slave plantation. Moreover, it’s  exactly why many in predominantly Black communities are, as a whole,  disgusted by many Black Conservatives.

Liberalism is a political ideology that transcends ethnic/cultural identity and economik Cc class. It is not unique to Blacks, Whites or any cultural group. Hence, the discussion should never polarized along the lines of so called race.

Liberalism, furthermore, is not a mental health issue and is not a health condition whatsoever, for I know plenty of socially dysfunctional conservatives.  So there is no “cure” for Liberalism or Conservatism, for both are merely political ideologies.

If we are going to lead someone from so called liberalism to constitutional literacy, insults and condescending is not going to be the way. No one can learn free market solutions in health care, energy, immigration, labor, and education, from this kind of rhetoric

The more White Conservatives actually listen to (and fund) this kind of rhetoric and applaud it, the more they damage the credibility of the conservative movement overall and give validation to the perception that Black Conservatives are mindless puppets of a hostile agenda against Black Americans.

This is, furthermore, no different than the race pimping Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton (I refuse to call him Reverend) do on the so called left. The only difference is that it is White conservatives. No one else is fooled.

In the final analysis, we don’t need more race hustling on either side.  Instead, we  need more Biblical, constitutional and financial literacy campaigns.

Finally, we need servants who are committed to holistic reconciliation and restoration of all Americans to free market solutions rather than seeking fame by spewing irresponsible, divisive, and disrespectful vitriol.

Could the author please elaborate? I think Elbert Lee Guillory is exactly what we need. Is he the kind of “Black Conservative” that you’re calling an overseer?

    • sswimp says:

I don’t know much about Mr. Guillory. I know that he has spoken a lot of why he is a Republican and shared much of the narrative that has been heard in the Conservative Movement for years. I have not heard anything original. That said, Time will tell, to answer your question. A good measurement will be if spends more time where that message is most needed versus where it is least needed. That is really the same for all of us.

  2. I would likely be considered a liberal or progressive although I hold many policy views that are conservative. I agree with a lot of what you’ve said about how Black conservatives are viewed and that race baiting exists and is also funded by outside organizations. In my opinion Project 21 is such an organization which I believe is founded, funded and controlled by The National Center for Public Policy Review (please correct me if I’m wrong). On the Project 21 Facebook page, more than half the articles while they might feature quotes and photo’s of Black conservatives are actually written by David Almasi or Amy Ridenour and I don’t see any signs of any Black conservatives participating at all. The comments/replies for every article invariably devolve into race based attacks on Black Americans where they are called at best “low information voters” and the worst includes “inherently inferior intellectually”, generally ascribes low morals, children born only out of desire to obtain another government check and I had someone demand to know if I knew who my father was because Black people have no family structure.

Have you visited the Project 21 Facebook site recently and seen how your name and others are being used to support what I believe is the type of right wing race baiting you spoke of? While many of the posters refer to racial division promoted by the left, it seems the Project 21 site only serves to provide a forum for right wing racism under the cover of your Black faces. This is worthy of your attention.
