MIGOP (Michigan Republican Party) activist and former Legislative Aide, Ken Braun, in a recent article entitled “What did God want Sodom’s fate to teach us about gays?”, asserts that the story of God destroying the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah because of “gay sex” should not be taken literally.
Braun’s article, on the surface, appears to be an attack on MIGOP National Committeeman, Dave Agema, who has come under criticism for his public stances against same sex marriage, as well as research based commentaries about the medical consequences of homosexuality as a lifestyle.
However, while Braun certainly levels very harsh words towards Agema (i.e., calling Agema a clown show, etc.), Agema was not his primary focus. His primary focus was to reject and ridicule historical, evangelical lessons on Sodom, Gomorrah, and God’s views towards Homosexuality.
It was an attempt to call into question the authority of the Bible in addressing today’s contemporary issues, particularly same sex unions/marriage.
