As of this writing, 17 states in our Republic have legally redefined marriage as being between other than one man and one woman. 33 states continue to have a ban on marriage redefinition.
The cultural winds that blow appear to be picking up steam, as more Americans are unwilling to hold on to the traditional Judeo-Christian values which this nation was built upon.
Sadly, this moral collapse is no less a reality among many who profess to be “Christian”. Many alleged Christians are now saying they support marriage redefinition under the guise of ‘equality” and “civil rights”, even as they know that God’s Word is unequivocally opposed to unions between two men and between two women.
These Christians who are choosing to advocate rejection of God’s Word are what the Bible identifies as “apostates”.
The word “apostasy” comes from the Greek word “apostasia’, which means is “falling away”.
The Bible says warns the church that a time would come when many Christians would choose to “fall away” and this would indicate that the anti Christ is paving the way for his revelation to man:
“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.”- II Thessalonians 2:3.
To be clear, apostates are those who claim to be Christians, but who voluntarily “fall away” or walk away from the Christian faith by virtue of abandoning what they formerly professed to believe about God and about the Word of God.
Apostates are serving the spirit of the anti Christ. They are now taking pleasure in wickedness (II Thessalonians 2:11,12)
By supporting marriage redefinition and helping to harden the hearts of homosexual and lesbians against God’s truth, apostates have chosen to place themselves outside of the Christian faith because they reject the beliefs of our faith.
Many professing Christians today are not only advocating marriage redefinition, but abortion as well. They call it “pro choice”, as if God’s choice to grant life in the womb is irrelevant.
The Bible calls an abomination and murder, respectively.
True Christians do not apostatize. They will never. under any condition, support abortion or homosexuality/lesbianism.
Instead, they will witness the gospel of Jesus Christ to the one who wants to abort or to the one who has already aborted. Rather than endorse or give license to it, true Christians will speak the gospel of Jesus to the one who is yet trapped in the darkness of homosexuality and lesbian lifestyles, whereby that person may come to know the freedom and light of Jesus Christ.
The fact is that the Word of God says that anyone who claims to be a Christian and yet supports things contrary to the core beliefs of the Christian faith were never truly believers to begin with .
“They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.”- I John 2:19
The Word of God gives a very specific command as to how true Christians are to deal with apostates:
We are to avoid any dealings with Apostates:
“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”- Romans 16:17,18
Sadly, there are some who I had considered friends who have chosen to become apostates. Even some off my own family members. As much as it hurts me personally, I have to trust God’s judgment and distance myself from those who choose to reject God’s Word and walk away from the doctrines of the faith.
I am certain other Christians are experiencing similar heartbreak from their friends and family as well. It is never an easy thing.
In the final analysis, God’s Word is true, even when man decides that he no longer wishes to believe it. It is time for true Christians to rise again, departing from apostates and going forward with the Word of Truth, come what may!
